Leaders from eight communities in Curitiba met over the internet last week to discuss challenges and exchange experiences on combating the new coronavirus. Among the topics covered are the social dynamics of families, awareness of the need for social isolation and the cut in income of informal workers. The meeting was organized by the Leadership GT of the Cidade Modelo Program, which functions as a laboratory for democratic culture in the capital of Paraná.

According to the facilitator Alexandra Meira, one of the main demands of the communities is the awareness of the population and the lack of income to maintain families.

During the meeting, the leaders reported problems in common, calling attention to the non-compliance with social isolation or protection measures in general. The exchange of experiences generates ideas for effective initiatives in the communities.

Community leaders mobilize initiatives and articulate resources to minimize problems. The first meeting was attended by representatives from organizations in the Pilarzinho, Umbará, Tatuquara, CIC, Vila Fanny, Alto Boqueirão and Santa Felicidade neighborhoods. The experience is expected to be repeated in the coming weeks, when other leaders and officials will be invited to participate in the discussion. One of the ideas is to formulate proposals to the government to strengthen actions based on the meetings.
